The Twister Film as shown on the catwalk.
The Twister Film (also known as Tornado Film) is an interlude by Nick Knight and Ruth Hogben for the revamped edition of The Monster Ball (2010-11). It was displayed on two rows of cylindrical screens being lowered to cover the end of the catwalk. The film was released as Tornado Film on October 4, 2011 by SHOWstudio.com on YouTube.
Synopsis
The Monster Ball featured the story of Gaga and her friends getting lost a few times on her way to The Monster Ball. After going down the Glitter Way, they run into an angel who plays a tune that summons a twister. Transcription of the dialogue can be found here. This film acts as the transition from Act II (Subway) to Act III (Forest).
The Twister Film was played after the last piano song, and before "So Happy I Could Die", which gave Lady Gaga the time to change into the Living Dress. Unlike the other quick changes, Gaga added the dress to her previous outfit with the help of two female dancers (Amanda and Molly) while hiding inside the cylindrical screens while the film was playing. The film and "So Happy I Could Die" were cut from the setlist on March 29, April 5, May 27, August 6, 2010, May 5 and 6, 2011 due to stage logistics issues (no runway or venue without a roof).
Although the music and the twister scenes were new, the footage of Gaga spinning (as in being stuck inside a twister) comes from the introduction film, Jumping Film. Gaga is wearing a top styled as jacket by Marko Mitanovski and boots by Rupert Sanderson for Karl Lagerfeld. The whole interlude has a strong "Wizard of Oz" inspiration.
