Toilet So Happy Film
The Toilet Film (also known as the Toilet So Happy Film) is a short film by Nick Knight and Ruth Hogben. It was released on October 4, 2011 by SHOWstudio.com on YouTube and presented as an interlude associated with The Monster Ball. The black‑and‑white film depicts a toilet bowl under shifting lighting while “So Happy I Could Die” plays as the soundtrack. Although it may have been created with the tour in mind, the film, or any portion of it, was ultimately not used in the show.
Synopsis
SHOWstudio described the piece as an ode to Marcel Duchamp’s controversial readymade sculpture Fountain (1917). The same toilet bowl also appeared in the debut photoshoot of Jo Calderone by Nick Knight on June 25, 2010. It was later signed by Gaga and displayed at SHOWstudio’s Inside/Out exhibition in 2010.
