Original case study
CASE STUDY: BLACK AND RED INTO BLINDING WHITE
LG begins on the center stage B below LED scoreboard, in a draped black gown (see reference image). The KAWS head turns to reveal a black backdrop (ex.: silk) stretched across the truss of the head. A red torture performance possibly involving artist Ron Athey (TO BE CONFIRMED) is displayed on an incline, with mirrored, bloody glass (see reference image). LG very slowly walks the catwalk to the main stage over a period of one minute and forty seconds.
At 1:40 / as LG arrives at the black silk drop, it drops kabuki style and is immediately pulled offstage to reveal a blinding white paradise garden (see reference images), filled with LG performers, possibly floating or displayed on tall pedestals (see attached looks). At the same time as the black screen drops, LG’s black dress drops to reveal the same elegant gown in white. LG begins to walk stage left across the stage in profile over the course of two minutes. As she crosses the torture figure, the dress turns red.
At 3:13, LG begins to fly diagonally up stage right in front of the white garden. The song ends as she is still ascending diagonally above the garden. At 3:36 or the end of the song, there is a blackout; she is lowered and the head turns back to original position for next act. The exact timing of the walk, if her song is to be preceded by other noise/white noise etc./prior to it starting, etc. is ytd.

- Title: Mademoiselle Caroline Rivière d'après Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (2013)
- Interpretation of “Mademoiselle Caroline Rivière” by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1806) as a slowly shifting 6 minutes video loop. In the video, Gaga is seen almost still and at some point, closing her eyes.
- Title: Variations d'après la Tête de saint Jean-Baptiste de Solario (2013)
- Variation of "Testa di Giovanni Battista" (The Head of Saint John the Baptist on a Charger) by Andrea Solario from 1507. A total of 14 looped videos ("steps") were made of Gaga's face superimposed over the painting by Solario.
- "La Mort de Marat" (The Death of Marat) by Jacques-Louis David (1793). For the exhibition, the frame was located on the first floor of the Denon wing. A recording of Gaga reading a few sentences in a loop.
During a radio interview, Gaga explained that she spent more than 48 hours with Robert Wilson reacting famous painting for his exhibit "Living Rooms" at The Louvre in France. From these sessions, he picked 24 photographs for the exhibition. The full shoot include:
- "Testa di Giovanni Battista" (The Head of Saint John the Baptist on a Charger) by Andrea Solario from 1507.
- "Mademoiselle Caroline Rivière” (Miss Caroline Rivière) by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres from 1806.
- "La Mort de Marat (The Death of Marat)" by Jacques-Louis David from 1793.
- "Flying": a video loop of Gaga hanging upside down wearing a bondage outfit.
Along with the photographs, a 50 minutes video is being shown at the exhibit as a "work in progress". Video footage of the "Testa di Giovanni Battista" set was shown during the artRave on November 10, 2013.
Gaga explained to Miranda Sawyer during an interview that she had her own idea of a living picture. This involved her wearing a bondage outfit and hanging upside down. “I told him I wanted to do something that was a tribute to the tortured soul of the artist that ends in suicide,” she explained to Sawyer.
