Opening Act is an American reality talent series that aired on E! and was produced by Nigel Lythgoe Productions. The show premiered on July 9, 2012, and concluded on September 4, 2012, spanning a single season with a total of eight episodes. In Australia, the series debuted on September 25, 2012, on E! Australia.
The premise of the show centers on discovering unsigned musical talent through online platforms. Selected contestants are given just five days to prepare as an opening act for a major recording artist, culminating in a live performance in front of a large audience.
Episode 8: Von & Lady Gaga[]
The season finale featured Vaughn Lee "Von" Smith, an American singer who rose to prominence via YouTube. He was chosen to open for Lady Gaga during her The Born This Way Ball tour at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Australia on June 14, 2012. For his performance, Von sang two songs: "Hopeless", an original track produced by Rock Mafia, and a cover of Beyoncé’s "Halo". Following the concert, Von met Gaga backstage. The episode aired on September 4, 2012.
