"Imagine" is a song by John Lennon, on the album, Imagine. On October 10, 2009, Lady Gaga performed a live cover-version of "Imagine" at the 13th annual Human Rights Campaign National Diner.
In Gaga’s version, she changed John’s lyrics to reference Matthew Shepard, the 21-year-old college student whose beating death in Wyoming in 1998, inspired government legislation against hate crimes which was passed earlier this year. A portion of the song's melody was changed to sound similar to "Speechless".

I’m not going to play one of my songs tonight. Tonight is not about me. It’s about you,” she said before breaking into the song just hours before the National Equality March on Washington.

John Lennon's version[]

From his album "Imagine".

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky

Imagine all the people
Living for today (ah ah ah-ah-ah)

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too

Imagine all the people
Living life in peace (yoo-hoo ooh-ooh-ooh)

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no posessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
Or brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world (yoo-hoo ooh-ooh-ooh)

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Lady Gaga's version on October 10, 2009[]

Gaga performed this song on Human Rights Campaign National Dinner.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
And only Matthew in the sky

Imagine all the people
Living for today, ah ah oh-oh-oh

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too

Imagine all the people
Living life in peace, ah-ah oh-oh

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

People of the nation
Are you listening?
It isn't equal if it's sometimes
I want a real democracy

Imagine all the people
Could love equally

Imagine no posessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger, oh yeah
Just the brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

With nothing to hate and
Nothing to think just
People who love and
Friends to have praise

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us, oh oh yeah
And the world will live as one

And I was born this way too
