Enigma
Interludes
London bassed VFX and creative content studio The Mill has joined forces with Lady Gaga and creative director Eli Russell Linnetz, to create the on-stage visuals for the show.
Enigma, an ethereal character that represents Gaga's inner persona, was originally created by The Mill for the release of her ARTPOP: App in 2013. The character now returns, refreshed and transformed alongside Anime Gaga, a new character created by The Mill, in a series of original films that play an integral part in residency performance.
The persona, a resident of Planet Enigma, was brought to life via real-time visual effects and game engine technology, driven by motion capture which was performed and voiced by Gaga herself. The Mill's technology team created the films using a combination of visual effects, motion capture and real-time technology. Gaga's interactions with Enigma on stage, punctuated with the Interlude films places show at the intersection of music, art and technology.
Backdrops
Drafts and sketches
Animator and Concept Artist Kylar Loya worked alongside Gaga and Eli Linnetz during the preproduction phase to create this immersive, full theatre production. Working as both an on-site design design consultant and sketch artist, Kylar also provided mock ups and final production designs for the residency's environment and props. Prop designs were fabricated by Jet Sets while Tait provided set and stage elements. Kylar created style frames, storyboards, and shot lists to assist in the 3D animated interstitials of the show.
Jazz & Piano
For the Jazz & Piano Engagement creative director Eli Russell Linnetz filmed interview interludes where Gaga discusses the history of Jazz, how it feels to perform it, why she returned to it and more. During the interview she also played her unreleased song "Captivated" on piano.
