The Emmy Awards, or simply Emmy, recognizes excellence in the television industry, and corresponds to the Academy Awards (for film), the Tony Award (for theatre), and the Grammy Awards (for music). The Emmy Awards are given and presented in different annual ceremonies held throughout the year. The two events that receive the most media coverage are the Primetime Emmys and the Daytime Emmys, which recognize outstanding work in American primetime and daytime entertainment programming, respectively.

The 46th Annual Sports Emmy Awards, held on May 20, 2025, at Jazz at Lincoln Center, in New York City, celebrated excellence in sports broadcasting. The event honored outstanding achievements in categories like live sports coverage, studio shows, and sports journalism. The ceremony was hosted by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Lady Gaga won her first Emmy at this year's Sports Emmy Awards for Outstanding Music Direction for her pre-Super Bowl LIX performance of "Hold My Hand", a song from the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack. The emotional performance, pre-recorded on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, was a tribute to victims of the 2024 New Year’s Day terrorist attack that killed 14 people, as well as those affected by Hurricane Helene and Los Angeles wildfires. Gaga performed at a piano, joined by a local gospel choir and first responders. She shared the Emmy with co-producers Seth Dudowsky, Bill Richards, Joel Santos, Jesse Weiss, and Brad Zager, with Joe Nargi as music editor. This win, her fifth Emmy nomination, brings her one Tony Award away from achieving EGOT status, adding to her Oscar for "Shallow" from A Star Is Born and 14 Grammy Awards.
