On April 4th, 2021, BloodPop wrote on Twitter about the possibility of a Chromatica remix album and asked followers to suggest which artists they would like to see on it. Later, he replied to himself by tagging Rina Sawayama, who answered it with a smirking emoji. He also confirmed he is working on a Charli XCX remix of "911" and would include an early version of "Babylon", from which a snippet was previously featured in a Haus Laboratories ad. On May 8th, also on Twitter, BloodPop revealed that Dorian Electra will be on the album. They were later revealed to have remixed "Replay". During an interview at the 2021 Brit Awards, Sawayama talked about the project, stating "the wish is on the internet, and I've done my bit, let's just say that. So, it's in the works". On May 12th, Charli XCX confirmed that the creation process of the "911" remix has begun. The track will feature production from producer A.G. Cook. Later that month, Bree Runway revealed she was involved with the remix album in an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show, before confirming she would appear on the "Babylon" remix by tweeting its lyrics on August 10th. The same day, Ashnikko confirmed her involvement and Gaga acknowledged the album for the first time, dubbing it "so f*cking fuego" in a tweet. On August 9th, Venezuelan producer Arca announced via Discord that she produced her own remix of "Rain On Me (song)". Pabllo Vittar hinted that he would be featured on a "Fun Tonight" remix on Twitter while Lil Texas confirmed his involvement by posting a short snippet of his "Sine From Above" remix. The album will also feature Shygirl with production from Mura Masa on "Sour Candy".

One day before the remix album release, on September 2nd, 2021, Lady Gaga posted a remixed promotional image by Team Rolfes on her Instagram with the following description:

"PAIN IS A SINE
#DawnofChromatica I invite you to dance to this album in celebration of young artists all over the world. Artists who see the world, feel the world, and put that feeling into something bigger than all of us: music. All love, LG xx

Artwork

On August 30, 2021, an artwork was revealed via Lady Gaga's social networks with the announcement of compilation's date release.

Similar to how the album include remixes of the songs from Chromatica, the artwork for Dawn of Chromatica is a remix of the original cover by Studio Pending with photographer Norbert Schoerner. For example, the shinier sine wave (Chromatica symbol) have reflections of the original photography on it. Talking about the creation of Down Of Chromatica's artwork, designer Sam Rolfes of Team Rolfes revealed on August 30, 2021 via his Twitter account that "the original cover is embedded in almost every piece, we [Team Rolfes] started with it as the foundation and grew the 3D forms from it, taking a lot of care to retain photographic references to the original — and splicing in a little Sour Candy fairy DNA along the way." Prior to this project, Team Rolfes created the lyric video for "Sour Candy" (2020). The goal for the artwork was "to make something as massive and intense as possible for everyone who so kindly supported the album."

On September 2, 2021, Sam Rolfes uploaded on his Google Drive individual fragments of the artwork, "for anyone who wants to remix their own" and shared it via his Twitter account[4]. For the other fragments, see Team Rolfes page.
