Angels Fancy Dress is a London-based supplier of fancy dress and costumes to the general public, one of the two divisions of Angels family business (the second one is Angels Costumes), founded in 1840. In 1813 Daniel Angel, a young tailor from Frankfurt, arrived in London, headed for Seven Dials and set up a barrow selling second hand clothes. In 1840, he and his son, Morris Angel, opened a shop in the Seven Dials area of London, near Covent Garden, and started to sell second-hand clothing and tailors' samples from Savile Row. The shop became popular with theatrical actors, who at that time had to purchase their own clothes and costumes for auditions and performances. Morris Angel brought his son Daniel (3rd generation) into the business in 1870, and seven years later, the family opened a shop at 119 Shaftesbury Avenue. In early 2020, Angels Fancy Dress moved out of its historic five-storey home in London's West End to the company's warehouse in Hendon due to rent rises.
