Air Artists is a pioneering stage inflatables company founded in 1976 by British artist and designer Rob Harries. Based in the United Kingdom, the company specializes in the creation of large-scale inflatable props, costumes, and scenic elements for concerts, theatrical productions, television, film, and promotional events. Air Artists’ inflatables are known for their hand-painted detailing, lightweight construction, and theatrical scale, often stitched by Harries’ partner Shirley Russell and painted by artist Andy Ireland. The company’s work has helped define the visual language of stadium rock and continues to influence stage design across genres.
Work with Lady Gaga[]
Inflatable pregnant belly[]
For the birth of a new race segment during Act I in The Born This Way Ball (2012–2013), Rob Harries created a giant inflatable pregnant belly with two legs wearing black Christian Louboutin heels. The belly featured painted muscle detailing and a navel piercing, a zippered opening at the front, from which Gaga and her dancers emerged to perform "Born This Way". On the opening night of the tour which took place in Seoul, the prop was covered by a large sheet due to the conservative nature of the city at that time. By mid-June of 2012, fishnet were added on the legs. The prop deflates during the bridge of the song.
